"I first met Ashok during APSICON held at Ooty, he gave me a DVD of his dissections of flaps. I still use this for teaching. He was a highly skilled surgeon.

I had the privilege and pleasure of being batch mate of our beloved Ashok in PGI. We were very close those days and used call him affectionately “Mama Koul” as there were 2 more Kouls in our batch. He was so full of life and enthusiasm. I met him after a long time around 2003, when I returned from the UK and he was in the process of shifting from Kochi to Bengaluru. He came for a conference in Hyderabad. Prior to the meeting, he inquired about my children and made a point of bringing them some toys. I am sure you know lot more of his kindness and affection that made him so dear to us. I was shocked and saddened to know about his sudden demise. A calm, humble and very helpful person. Dr Ashok Koul has been inspiring to many young plastic surgeons. His achievement in the field of Microsurgery and Brachial Plexus is magnificient. My last conversation was with him at our Bangalore Plastic surgeons Bi-monthly meet last year, when he encouraged me to take a stand and organize the first Facial aesthetic cadaver course in Ramaiah Hospital. When i was not sure, his few words of wisdom and support gave me the boost to make the course happen. All he said was, "If you want to do it.... just go ahead an do it....karne ka hai to kar!!! I had the privilege of being attached with Dr Ashok Koul for 6 months during my senior residency at PGIMER in 1995. He was very sympathetic towards poor patients. He was committed to the profession. "Memories are many that will be cherished in the name of our beloved Son-in-Law Dr. Ashok Koul . But I would like to mention here my latest and last experience being with him, that was in the year September 2015. It was during my stay in Arogiyadama in Bangalore with my wife. After our 15 days stay there Dr Ashok had personally come to the Ashram and to pick us up and take to his home . He was a very down to earth person, very kind, humble in nature. And not to forget very jovial in nature and the best host anyone can be with.
Dr Ashok didn't allow me to even pick my luggage and made us laugh throught out our journey from the Aashram to his home.
I am now falling short of word; all I can say, it's great loss to our family.
Let's all pray to our Almighty to give courage to our daughter Dr. ASHA and her daughters to bear this non repairable loss and may he grant the parted soul place in his lotus feet.

"Ashok was one of my closest childhood friends. I met him first in 1980 when we joined GMC Srinagar.He was very intelligent and hardworking. During medical school days we shared a common love for trekking and hiking and some of our memorable hikes included trekking to Mahadev, a peak close to Srinagar city and a hike to Kaunsarnag. We stayed at each other's homes several times. In 1989 I stayed at his home in Shopian for almost two months and got to know his extended family.
We spent a lot of time together when we were in PGI, Chandigarh. I have fond memories from our time in Kairon Block in PGI, Chandigarh. In our later years even as our professional careers took us to different parts of the world, we still stayed in touch initially; in the later years, as happens usually, we got too busy with our careers and raising a family. Ashok had a common sense, rational approach to things. He was a very straighforward person and easy to get along with.
One of the things with friendship is that even if you meet after years, you can reconnect immediately. This happened with our meeting a few years ago when I was visiting Bangalore . We reconnected and talked about old times and the future. We had great time together.
I will miss him deeply.
